Hay

It's hay time again. Now that I am involved in horses I really know what they mean by 'make hay when the sun shines'. They need at least 4-5 days of sun from the time they cut it, dry it, turn it, dry more, turn again, then bale and get it off the paddocks before it gets rained on.

So - we had word some organic browntop was being baled today so after work and after the vet had seen Maraschino for his lump I set off for the first load. It was 27 degrees on the way there, not a cloud in the sky. It's so funny during hay season - all you see is horse floats, trucks and trailers ferrying hay around.

Like this guy I was following on my last trip back.

George was working so I managed to get 74 bales in two lots, by myself although I was completely knackered by the end of it. It's the stacking high that gets me. By the end of the stacking (George arrived to help for the last few), all my strength was gone.

The hay gets all over you, and sticks to your sweat - and itches...

Anyway - check out this huge stack in the hay shed.
