Storm

Last night we had a big storm - it probably was not that bad but being in the barn, at night, makes it sound 100 times worse I think. So I got little or no sleep for the whole night with gale force winds and rain, worrying about what was getting blown and chasing the horses, and how they were - knowing they would most likely not be in the yards due to the fact it was an Easterly (the yards are not that protected from North/East directions). About 3am we realised the power was off, so adding this worry of does that mean a tree has bought the lines down on the road, and if so it could be days before it's back on, plus George needing to wake up at 5am for work (not that that was ever going to be a problem!)...

So George got up at 5am and used my little battery operated wall light I got ages ago (it's been great)... to get dressed. He had to move the port-a-loo off the driveway where it had blown over (bags not tipping that up the right way again)... and he texted to say there were lights on in Kumeu - so if I needed to I could go to work for the loo.

You can see the loo on it's side up by the gate.

Sadly living on a rural property means that if you lose the power you have no water because the pump doesn't work... and of course in a storm you have a surplus of water. Our tank is now overflowing again. So - no loo, no coffee machine, no internet, no water, no shower.

Anyway - by about 7am the worst of the rain and wind had eased and I got about an hours sleep before the delivery men called to say was 12 ok to deliver the fridge. I heard the pump meaning the power was also back on. I went outside to see if the horses were ok. They were fine but the two barrells had gone run-about - one was by the gate and the other in the orchard! Bet the horses didn't like that at the time. Fixed the hammocks up in the caboodle and got back into bed.

Went back to sleep till 10.30am and got up, had a shower, and breakfast, and coffee just before the fridge men arrived.

Went to see how the house coped. Half of it now (the garages and the west wing) are covered in building paper - apart from a couple of holes in the paper letting a bit of water through the difference between that end and the non covered end is huge. The other end has about 2mm of water in each room lapping up the bottom of the frames.

You can see the grass has 'set' sideways from the Gale Easterly.

Maybe we will have to call you pair the Drought Breakers, I think I would be petrified, at least George was there when it was storming. The house is coming along fantastically , shouldn't be too long before lock up.
I am enjoying the progress
